An historical and handsome artefact of the Royal Navy, the nameboard from HMS Easton. Large brass letters on teak board, one of only two that were made for the Ship. The nameboard has the original curators and MOD release labels.
From the esteemed Ferrers-Walker collection that was once on display at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in Portsmouth Dockyard.
HMS Easton was a Type III Hunt-class escort destroyer of the Royal Navy, built by J. Samuel White and launched on 11 July 1942, commissioned 7 December 1942.
During WWII she mainly served in the Mediterranean, escorting convoys and engaging submarines. In February 1943 she and another ship sank the Italian submarine Asteria. In August 1943 she helped force the German submarine U-458 to surface and then rammed it, sinking it, but suffered heavy damage to her own bow and propeller shafts.
After repairs she returned to service, supporting operations in the Aegean and bombarding Greek Communist forces. Post-war she was placed in reserve, used as a training hulk, and finally scrapped in Rosyth in January 1953.
